Mr. Husted visited the campus of O-I Glass to promote the “innovation hub” project, a $150 million initiative proposed by Governor Mike DeWine at his State of the State address last month that is working its way through the still ongoing state budget process.
The day saw Mr. Husted looking at some of O-I’s new automated technology and how they are utilizing machine learning and robotics to make glass production easier. This was followed by the roundtable with local leaders, which included the presidents of Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo as well as leaders from First Solar, NSG Pilkington, and Libbey.
The notion that glass is everywhere from solar panels to fibers in building materials and bottles, was brought up several times Wednesday, and Mr. Husted said that Toledo could play that association up when thinking about what they should submit to the state for a prospective cut of the “hub” money.
