July marked a milestone month for regional STEM outreach and technical workforce development as our Summer Academy concluded its most impactful season to date. Spanning K-12 education, university-level research, and professional teacher training, this summer’s initiatives connected advanced glass and materials science with the talent pipeline of tomorrow. Thank you to all of who worked hard to provide these outstanding experiences!

This month at the Consortium, the bridge between academic theory and real-world industrial application became stronger than ever. The Hub was buzzing with activity as we welcomed the next generation of glass innovators into the NOIC cullet lab and celebrated a massive milestone: the first official research publication to come out of the Hub’s technical innovation projects.
From hands-on laboratory testing to cutting edge clean-technology research, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in glass manufacturing.

The Glass Recycling Foundation recently awarded $30,000 in grant funding to expand and improve glass recycling efforts in the Greater Toledo area. NOIC has partnered with Recycle Services, Lucas County, O-I Glass, and Owens Corning to bring the Glass Collection & Transportation Enhancement project to life, focusing on long-term sustainability, easing current challenges, and closing gaps in the regional glass recycling ecosystem.
