The Northwest Ohio Innovation Consortium, created to lead the effort for a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, has been reconfigured in an effort to land a smaller state grant for the same purpose.
The University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, and Owens Community College will lead the grant application in partnership with First Solar, Pilkington, Owens Corning, O-I Glass, and Libbey.
The goal is to make glass stronger, lighter, and easier to recycle using less energy while creating solar panels which produce more energy because of the process improvements that spring from the innovation hub.
